To start this blog, I’ll start with why I’m making one in the first place. My New Years’ Resolution for 2023 was to make and sell a game. I’ve been itchin’ to make one for a while and its finally time to scratch it. I’ve done my research and I know its quite the task to complete a game all by yourself, but I think I’ve amassed enough skills to see it through. Of course, the biggest question that any indie dev has to ask themselves is: “Where do I start?”
I pondered this for some time and came to the conclusion that I should build my audience as soon as possible so that people would actually be aware of my game by the time it’s done. From what I can tell, documenting and showing progress to people is one way to do this. So before I even start on the game, I wanted to make a website to start “branding.” I was feeling unoriginal so I just decided to use my gamertag. Thus, Whirlwind Games was born.
Then I did nothing for a month.
To be fair, I was going through some stuff. I got laid off from Google a couple weeks into the New Year and had to reorient myself from that whirlwind… (sorry). I will miss my co-workers and the benefits it offered, but I now have a plethora of free time and some capital with which I can jumpstart new opportunities.
In this blog, I’ll write about games, game dev, tech, and maybe just whatever else I feel like talking about. I’m aiming for weekly posts, but no guarantees. So feel free to join me in my epic quest to turn the blank canvas of possibility into a colorful and inspiring experience.
