I really thought I’d be able to keep up with a blog, but seeing as how 2 months have gone by with no updates, I’m beginning to doubt myself. However, you never know when motivation will strike you.

Case in point: I was chatting with a friend about a colony based automation game, when on a whim I came up with Pawsival, the lead engineer for the newest cat colony on a hostile alien planet.

Didn’t think I’d continue on with it, but its been stewing in the back of my head and I could actually envision the game as a viable project. Its still gonna take quite a bit of self motivation to get a project like that one moving, but hey we all have to start somewhere right?

And what better motivation than a competition? You see, Ludum Dare 53 is right around the corner. I’ve mentioned participating in a previous post, but if you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically a 48-hour game making competition where you are challenged to make a game in a single weekend. This will be my first time participating since 2018, so I’m excited to see how my skills have improved.

In preparation for the contest, I’m getting some practice in beforehand by animating Pawsival and importing him to Unity. Here’s what I have so far:

I’ve been following AdamCYounis‘ pixel art tutorials on Youtube and I like what I’m seeing so far. If you like pixel art or game dev, you should definitely give his channel a browse.

I’m still pretty slow at creating assets, so making a whole game in weekend will be quite a challenge, but it’s time I make good on my New Year’s Resolution and make myself a game.
